The Brookings-Harbor High School Boys Soccer season is under way with an air of optimism.
With a virtually new roster, after losing seven graduating seniors (six of whom started), head coach Jess Beaman said he’s not rattled. “I’ve been working with most of the kids on the team since they were in the first grade on a traveling team. They know how to play well, both technically and tactically.
“They will do very well in league this year,” Beaman said.
In preparation for their season, the team competed over the summer in the Salem Capital Cup, Hidden Valley State of Jefferson 6v6, and friendly games against Henley and North Valley.
By keeping up their skills and facing stiff competition, the team hopes to return to the state playoffs again this season.
This Friday, the varsity team heads to the U.S. Cellular fields in Medford for the Phoenix Jamboree. There, they’ll play short games against Phoenix, Grants Pass and Cottage Grove.
Brookings’ official season kicks off Sept. 12 with a home game against Gold Beach/Pacific.
Beaman said his team hopes the community will attend the game to support the local youth.
