The Brookings-Harbor All-Star Little League teams competed over the week at the district level in a series of games stretching from Saturday to Wednesday.

The competing teams were the 8-10-year-old team, the 10-12-year-old team and the 50/70 team. The teams are headed by Shawn Bavarro, Matt Flescher and Shawn Dietriech, respectively.

The 50/70 team played a double-header against Illinois Valley on Saturday for two wins at 26-15 and 14-0, respectively. With those wins, the 50/70 team will advance to the state playoffs at Alpenrose Stadium in Portland as the District 8 representative alongside five other teams. The team drew a bye for their first round and will play their first game on July 7.

The 10-12 team played Grants Pass on Saturday and lost 15-0, but returned Sunday to defeat Medford at 15-5. They then played Grants Pass again to take a close 19-18 win after being down 10 points and finally wrapped up against Gold Hill with a 8-5 loss.

“We went over there and met the valley kids and made a good run,” said Flescher. “Coming from the coast to the valley heat was hard on the kids, but we had a good run.”

The 8-10 team won their first game against Central Point on Saturday at 12-10 and went on to face Medford on Monday to take a loss at 30-9. The 8-10 team then faced Grants Pass for a 28-18 win on Tuesday to earn a rematch against Medford in the championship round, who beat the Brookings team 20-0.

“I was excited for the kids and that they got to compete for a championship,” said Bavarro. “It was a great sendoff for them and a great start to their summer.”

Thanks to a donation from Rogue Credit Union, the teams also had the opportunity to go and watch a Medford Rogues baseball game during the tournament.

The league organizers thanked their sponsors and volunteers from generous donors like Daryn Farmer to volunteers like Angie Hughes who helped sew patches on all 36 uniforms for the team.

Alex Parkinson, Hank Flescher, Deryk Farmer, Samuel Brouillard, Gage Francisco, Jeremiah Minser-Eck, Isaac Hughes, Zander Carlson, William Hall, Colton Burger, Brian Dahl Jr. and Tristan Long competed on the 10-12 team.

Lucas Skaggs, Grady Maylin, Owen Austin, Skylar Tribur, Braxton Miller, Brodie Clemens, Brody Bavaro, Sebastian Olvera, Kole Taylor, Kaiden Robinette, Aiden Holmes and Carter Westbrook competed on the 8-10 team.

Aaron Thompson, Auldon Perkins, Austin Dietrich, Blake Delaney, Brent Nolte, Ethan Orman, Evan Orman, Kyler Christensen, Morgan Quackenbush, Patrick Greene, Preston Scott and Spencer Rosenberg will advance to state as the 50/70.
