Brookings-Harbor’s Josh Serna blasts out of the bunker.

Brookings-Harbor’s Josh Serna and Rylan Bruce played well in golf tournaments this week at Coos Golf Club and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

Serna shot an 89 and Bruce a 90 to finish sixth and seventh, respectively, in the Coos Open on Monday.

Then on Tuesday, they were part of the Bandon Match Play tournament at Old Macdonald, one of the resort courses.

In that event, they each played two nine-hole matches, with Serna losing his matches while paired with the top player from North Bend and the No. 2 player from St. Mary’s and Bruce winning both of his.

“I’m really happy,” said Serna after shooting an 85 at Old Macdonald during his first time on the layout known for its huge, challenging greens.

“I was really crushing my drives today,” he said. “I just need to work on my putting. I’m not used to these fast greens.”

Serna lost both his matches 2 and 1 — to Zach Holt of North Bend and Brock Drury of St. Mary’s. Drury beat Bruce by five shots at Coos Golf Club.

Bruce beat Elliot Zimmer of St. Mary’s 3 and 1 and Anthony Hennick of Bandon 3 and 1.
