Brookings-Harbor’s girls finished the regular season 7-3-1, falling to Sutherlin 3-2 in a game to determine the league champion. That loss was sandwiched between a 1-0 nonleague win at Marshfield and an 8-0 win over South Umpqua.

The Bruins were scheduled to face St. Mary’s on Tuesday in the Class 3A culminating week tournament quarterfinals.


The Brookings-Harbor cross country teams finished their season in the district championships last Thursday at Valley of the Rogue State Park in Rogue River.

The boys finished fourth in the Class 3A District 4 meet behind champion Creswell, St. Mary’s and South Umpqua. The girls had one entry in the Class 3A-2A-1A District 4 meet. Bandon won the girls title and Myrtle Point was second.

In the boys race, the Bruins were led by Everest Abblitt, who placed eighth in 20 minutes and 44 seconds. Branko Briggs was 13th (21:53), Colby Nelson 28th (25:06), Nicholas Varitek 33rd (27:48) and Kyan Myers 41st (42:00).

Cascade Christian’s Jake Sorani won the race in 18:12.

Brookings-Harbor’s Miranda Roberts was 51st in the girls race in 32:38. Kaley Schneider of Lakeview won in 20:46.

Gold Beach’s Taylor Jackson was 29th in the Class 2A-1A District 4 race in 22:16. Kailina Hamilton was 41st in the girls race (29:12), with Areli Lampke 48th (32:12).


After a strong start to the season, Brookings-Harbor lost five of its final six matches and had two others canceled.

The Bruins finished 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Far West League.


The traditional spring sports start this coming week after one week of practice.

The baseball and softball teams for Brookings-Harbor will play a 15-game league schedule, with a different opponent each week.

Brookings-Harbor’s baseball team opens with a game at Douglas on Wednesday and hosts the Trojans for a doubleheader on Saturday.

The softball team hosts Douglas on Wednesday and visits the Trojans for a doubleheader Saturday.

The track team will be at Hidden Valley on April 21 and has a home dual with Gold Beach on May 1. The team also competes in the May the Fourth Be With You meet at Cave Junction on May 4.

The golf schedule has not been published.

Gold Beach‘s baseball and softball teams are at Myrtle Point on Thursday and hosts Coquille in a doubleheader Saturday.
