Tolowa Coast Dune Wildflower Program and Walk
Join Laura Julian, a botanist with Redwood National and State Parks, for a dune wildflower slide presentation followed by a 2-mile round trip hike into the coastal dunes this Sunday.
Discover which native plants and flowers are in bloom and learn about the adaptations they have evolved to help them survive in a harsh world of sand and wind.
Meet at 1:00 p.m. at the Lake Earl Wildlife Area Headquarters, 2591 Old Mill Road (off Northcrest Drive), Crescent City, California. Wear comfortable shoes, a long-sleeved shirt and pants; bring drinking water, snacks, and mosquito repellent.
Call Sue at (707) 465-6191 for more information. Sponsored by Tolowa Dunes Stewards and Redwood Parks Conservancy.
Let's Go Birding on the G.O. (Gasquet-Orleans) Road
Join trip leader Gary Maschmeyer for this field trip to look for higher-elevation forest birds including Mountain Quail, Dusky Flycatcher, Townsend’s Solitaire, Nashville Warbler, Hermit Warbler, Lazuli Bunting, and more.
Meet at the Azalea Middle School (505 Pacific Ave. west of Oak St.) on June 15 in Brookings at 6:30 a.m. to carpool. Bring a jacket or sweater as it might be chilly, plus snack and drink as we probably won’t return until 2 p.m.
There won’t be a lot of walking on this trip as most birding will be done standing by your car at various locations as we work our way up G.O. Road.
