Bruins golf

The Bruins returned to play again at Eagle Point on Thursday for a tournament hosted by Crater High School. The Bruins placed third out of 11 schools at 376 points. Mazama came in first with 364 points, while Roseburg took second at 370 points.

Cameron Kime took the low score for the Bruins and medaled at fourth place. Robbie Rowe and Zack Walker shot a 93, while Ryland Bruce shot 106. Ethan Hooper scored 119.

Abby Walker and Mia Weaver also competed but did not have enough players for a girls team with only two. Abby shot 123, while Mia shot 124.

The Bruins host their home tournament at Salmon Run Golf Course in Brookings at 10 a.m. on Monday with a shotgun start. Volunteers and spectators are welcome to attend

Bruins track and field

The Bruins track and field team hit another league meet on Tuesday when they traveled to South Umpqua for the Special District 4 Regional Meet.

The boys took first at 171.5 team points despite missing some key athletes this week. Pleasant Hill took second at 164 points, while South Umpqua took third at 98.5 points.

The Bruins girls took third at 112 points. Pleasant Hill took first at 165.83 and South Umpqua took second at 129.5.

The Bruins competed with six teams, including league rivals Douglas and South Umpqua.

Starting with the top Bruins placements for boys running events, Aiden Strahm took third in the men’s 100-meter dash at 12.16 seconds. Cody Lee took third in the 200 at a new PR of 25.09. Kaleb Barnes took first in the 800 at 2:10.15, whole Andrew Enos took third 2:22.97, a new PR.

Barnes also took first in the 1500 at 4:34.46, while Jake Beaman took third at 4:52.55, a new PR.

Everest Abblitt took first in the 3000 at 10:25.28, while Aidan Zellmar came in second at a new PR of 10:32.35. Aiden Cook came in third with a new PR at 11:10.66. Keenan Caroll took first in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with an 18.13 PR.

For field events, Josh Smith took first for the shot put at 41-06 feet, while Derek Bonde took first in the javelin at 158-00. Strahm took first in the long jump at 18-09 and Patrick Runge took third in the triple jump at 36-10.

For the girls, Alonna Nalls took second in the 200 at a new PR of 28.18 and second in the 400 with a new PR of 1:04.64. Faith Burton took third in the 1500 at 6:16.57. Megan Pearson took second in the 300 hurdles at 54.27 and first in the 100 hurdles at 18.43.

Chloe McCrae took third in the shot put at 29-07.50, first in the discus at 101-01 and third in the javelin at 92-07. Nalls also took second in the long jump at 14-03.

The Bruins compete again today when they travel to the Medford Distance Carnival hosted at Speilberg Stadium. First events begin at noon.

Bruins softball

The Bruins took on the South Umpqua Lancers on Tuesday on the road for a 7-2 loss.

The Lancers took a small lead in the first inning with a single run, while an uneventful second inning led to them raising the score to 3-0 with two runs in the third inning.

Brookings managed two runs in the fourth inning, but the Lancers matched them, taking things to 5-2. After neither team managed to score in the fifth inning, the Lancers scored two more runs in the sixth before wrapping things up in the seventh at 7-2.

Gracie Harms pitched six innings with 18 first-strike pitches and three strikeouts, while Jordan Crosby and Jordan Pryor both took home three QABs. Madison Taylor and Pryor were responsible for both of the Bruin’s RBIs.

The loss put the Bruins at 8-12 overall this season, ranked No. 20 in the OSAA 3A rankings. In the league, they were 2-4 at third place.

Panthers baseball

The Panthers took a win over Coquille on Wednesday when they went 16-3 at a home game. This puts the Panthers at 2-8 for the season and they were last ranked No. 48 in the OSAA 2A/1A rankings. They’re also currently 2-4 in league, tied for fourth with Waldport.

The Panthers played Myrtle Point on Friday and travel to Coquille to play on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Panthers softball

The Panthers were defeated by Toledo on Monday at 20-3, taking them to 1-12 overall this season. In the league, the Panthers are 0-6 at eight place in the league.

The Panthers played again on Friday against Myrtle Point and travel to play Coquille on Friday starting at 4:30 p.m.
