The Curry Anadromous Fisherman (CAF) of Indian Creek Salmon Hatchery are hosting the ninth annual Lower Rogue Salmon Derby, starting today at the mouth of the Rogue River. The Derby runs through Saturday, ending at 3 p.m. with a banquet dinner 3 p.m.-6 p.m.

Fisherman can sign up anytime before the end of the competition at Lexis Landing, Jot’s Resort or the Rogue Outdoor Store for $25. Weighing will be done at Fisherman Direct with a minimum weight of 7 pounds. Signing up is required before weighing. The standing record is a 71.5 pound salmon caught on the Rogue River.

Cash prizes will be given out during the banquet for the randomly drawn Fish of Derby and the biggest overall. There will also be a raffle and silent auction. Lasagna and alcohol will be served at the banquet dinner.

Proceeds from the event go towards supporting the Indian Creek Salmon hatchery, which releases roughly 90,000 fish into the Rogue River every year. The funding helps defray hatchery costs, which are roughly $2,000 per month.
