The Salmon Run youth golf camp started Monday with five kids attending the first of five sessions. According to Val Early of Salmon Run’s management team, the current group is entirely younger kids. Signups are ongoing for later sessions.

There are also several more scholarships available since last week to waive the standard $50 fee. To sign up or get more information, call the Salmon Run clubhouse.

“The kids were very excited and everyone had a good time on Monday,” Early said. “We have several kids from the high school team helping out and even a former player who teaches at the high school help teach.”

Mia Weaver and Cameron Kime from the Bruins golf team came to help out, as well as Brookings-Harbor High School assistant teacher Nathan Hanscam.

Salmon Run also hosted its Lady’s Visitation event on Sunday where they invited women’s golf teams from other courses out to come experience Salmon Run. Teams from Redwood, Daywood, Beau Pre and Cedar Wood attended. It was a casual visit with lunch provided by the Salmon Run ladies club.

ODFW also stopped by to conduct their annual survey and found the area around Salmon run to be in good condition.

Intermittent sunny and lightly overcast weather made for good play last week with this week’s forecast looking like more of the same. With the weather looking mostly sunny this week, golfers should expect the temperature to get pretty high on the course.

Salmon Run is continuing to see new fawns born weekly and roaming the grounds with their mothers. Which, Early noted, seems surprisingly late in the season this year.

This week

The rest of this week will focus on the Salmon Run youth golf camp, interested young golfers can still contact the club house about possibly dropping in or attending a later session.

The second and third session will go from July 9-13 and July 23-27, respectively.

Signups have started for the June Jackson Memorial Tournament sponsored by Don Jackson on July 7.

Golfers can put together a four-person team to play in the causal tournament. Entry fees are $25 plus green fees. Lunch will be included.
