The Brookings-Harbor Little League age 8-10 and 10-12 All Star baseball teams competed in the District 8 Little League Tournament at Pyke’s field in Crescent City last week, from June 16-20.

The Del Norte team recently moved from the California Little League to the Oregon Little League District 8 and this is the first time they’ve hosted the district tournament.

The district tournament is a double elimination tournament where teams are knocked out after two losses.

The Brookings-Harbor age 10-12 team started their bracket strong by taking an 18-4 victory over Medford last Saturday. They then came back for another, much closer win at 2-1 against the Grants Pass American team on Sunday.

The team then took a bye on Monday before taking on Del Norte on Tuesday, who defeated them at 15-5. They came back for a rematch against Grants Pass American on Wednesday, but took a 9-1 loss to knock them out of the tournament. Had the Brookings-Harbor team won, they would have faced Del Norte again, who ultimately defeated Grants Pass in the final round and will advance to the state level.

“It was a great group of kids this year and we probably had some of the most highlights I’ve ever seen from an All Star team,” said Shawn Dietrich, the manager of Brookings-Harbor Little League and coach of the age 10-12 team.

The age 8-10 team played their first game on Saturday against Del Norte and were defeated at 17-7. They came back Sunday to play Medford, but lost again at 12-6, knocking them out of them out of the tournament.

“It was a rough first game where we really struggled batting,” said Kyle Kennedy, the age 8-10 team coach. “We’re still super proud of the kids. They put in a lot of work this year with practice six out of seven days a week. We probably got a cumulative 1000 pitches in for the team over out six weeks.”

According to Kennedy,

The Brookings Little League will conclude their season here until starting again next January.
