Last week saw the start of Salmon Run’s annual business league on Tuesday, as well as the second annual Brookings-Harbor Educational Foundation Fundraising Tournament on Saturday.

The fundraising tournament had 16 teams. Rob Krebs, Reed Smith, Jay Morrison and Lucas Vanderlip took first with a score of 61, while second place was contested between the three-man team of Charlie Keady, Jake Keady, and Brent Deladurantey and the four-man team of with Dustin Wesel, Duane Wesel, Randy Gorman and Zane Carroll who tied with scores of 62.

Other winners included Josh Coleman and Tamara Beckley for the best long drives, while Beckley, Vince Enos, Davene Adams, Steve Deraita, Buell Gonzales all were the closest to the pin on their respective holes.

The tournament was a Las Vegas Scramble where the players teed off before using dice rolls to determine which drive to use. Balls in the woods, lake, or otherwise lost caused penalty strokes and impacted a team’s bottom line score.

The tournament was accompanied by a raffle and silent auction with all proceeds going to the Brookings-Harbor Education Foundation’s efforts to fund any education related events or projects in the city. This include funding theater performances and filling in gaps in school budgets. This year, the foundation used its money to purchase welding rods for the high school and the required books for this year’s Battle of the Books competition.

The fundraiser was also sponsored by AAA Stor All, All Care, Century 21, and 21 local sponsors who provided both cash and refreshments.

Conditions

The cloudy forecast coming up this week should provide a much needed reprieve to the greens of Salmon Run after such a hot week. With the clouds blocking out the sun, things should cool down a bit while the wind slows. There’s a good chance the course will get hit with rain over the weekend before it’s back to clear skies on Monday.

This week

The local business league met at Salmon Run on Tuesday and updated standings should be posted later today. The first half of the Bandon Crossing Home and Home event starts today. Players from Brookings travel to Bandon to play and players from Bandon will then visit Brookings on June 13 for the second half. Salmon Run will also be hosting a private graduation party over the weekend.

The 10-week Black/Tan Tee Challenge for men and women starts June 14 and signups have started for the Aug. 9-10 Ladies Silver Salmon Invitational tournament.
