With the winter sports season just a few weeks away, here is a look at how the Gold Beach Panthers performed in the fall season.


After opening the season with losses to Coquille and St Mary’s, the Gold Beach football team went undefeated in league play to claim the Sunset Conference championship and finished with a record of 6-3 overall, 5-0 Sunset Conference.

The Panthers averaged 37.7 points and allowed 25.4 points per game.

In the OSAA 2-A playoffs, the sixth-ranked Panthers were upset by No. 11 Oakland on their home turf in a 11-45 blowout loss.

The Panthers graduate 12 seniors: Tyson Lilly, Taylor Mather, Alex Carpenter, Brandon Seuser-Smith, Trevor Walker, Yancy Rangel, Cody Martin, Derek Punch, Michael Dalton, Chris Salazar, Luke Gilbert and Brandon Healey.


The Gold Beach volleyball team finished with a record of 4-10 overall and 4-6 in the 2A-4 Sunset Conference.

In league play, the Panthers swept the season series against Toledo and split games against Bandon and Waldport. Gold Beach lost both meetings against Myrtle Point and Reedsport.

The Panthers graduate five seniors: Bella Laurino, Kayleanna Ridens, Billee Hiatt, Kassidy Stewart and Paris Newdall.

Boys Cross Country

The Gold Beach cross country team was led by juniorbrothers Brycen and Bailey Pitchford, who looked season bests of 18:26.1 and 19:41.0 in the 5,000 meters, respectively.

The Panther’s best finish came at the 2.5-mile Cinnamon Roll Invitational Run, in which Brycen took first with a time of 13:48.32 and helped the Panthers to a second place finish.

The Panthers will only graduate one senior in Dawson Martin.

Girls Cross Country

Senior Bethy Myers ran a team best 22:28.2 at the Woahink Lake XC Invitational and was closely followed by Bethy Myers who clocked in at 22:42.8

Myers finished ninth in the 5,000 meters varsity at the 3A/2A/1A-SD 6 District 6 Championships with a time of 22:49.05, while freshman Anna McCann took first in the 5,000 meters junior varsity after registering a 24:11.84.

The Panthers will graduate two seniors: Bethy Myers and Avi Gaston.
