Both the Brookings-Harbor and Gold Beach cross country teams competed at the Myrtle Point Invitational last weekend in one of their final warm-ups before the district meet.
With only two more races to go before the Far West League Championships, the Brookings-Harbor cross country team show markedly improved results at the Myrtle Point Invitational in Myrtle Point last week.
Once again, sophomore Zachary Abblitt led the Bruins in the 5,000 meters boys varsity division, finishing fifth with a time 18:04.
Abblitt was followed junior Andrew Enos (19:41) and freshman Christian Steendahl (19:51) who finished 20th and 24th respectively. While this is the same exact placement the two registered at the Hidden Valley Mustang Invitational, it’s an significant improvement as the two shaved off 40 and 50 seconds from their previous times.
Aidan Zellmer (20:23), Josiah SpearDenham (20:58), Daniel Strom (21:01) and Everett Van Maren (21:28) followed at 37th, 46th, 49th and 55th respectively. Robby Rowe came in next at 63rd with 22:40, followed by Zack walker in 66th with 22:43. Toner Neros rounded out the pack in 75th place with a time of 24:43.
The Bruins return to action later today at the HDN League Meet Fortuna in Rohner Park.
In the 5,000 meters varsity boys, junior Bailey Pitchford led the Panthers with a time of 19:41 to finish 19th overall.
Sophomore Tandy Martin finished after in 57th after clocking in at 21:43, while senior Dawson Martin brought up the rear in 76th place with a time of 25:27.
For the 5,000 meters varsity girls, the Panthers only had two runners. Senior Bethy Myers led the way in 16th place (23:39), while freshman Anna McCann (26:27) took 36th place.
The Panthers resume action tomorrow (Oct 19) at The Run for the Brownies in Sandpines Golf Links.
