This delicious little fish hut in the middle of nowhere, The Crazy Norwegian’s Fish & Chips, opened 28 years ago in 1994. Its original owners named it “The Crazy Norwegian,” since both of their parents came from Norway. My name is Dianne Hosford, and I am the fourth owner of this restaurant, having owned it since 2014.
Our fish and chips, chowder, and tartar sauce are all proprietary recipes that have lived on for the entirety of the restaurant’s run. All pies, cookies, soups, dressings, and sauces are made from scratch daily. Our locally sourced produce and fish are used when available and not cost prohibitive. And no, we don't serve Halibut, but yes, we do serve Cod.
Before the pandemic, our customers were about 80/20 when it came to dine-in vs. takeout. Since then these numbers have become almost exactly the opposite. Given this, our outside dining area expanded in 2020. Even during the dips in business and closings wrought by the pandemic, I have been able to keep between 12-18 employees working. Most of my team "The Cod Squad" has been working with me for several years.
We are, arguably, one of the most important destinations in Curry County, and definitely one of the most important businesses in Port Orford. We are frequently listed on The Best Of surveys in many publications for best Fish and Chips. We have won the Trip Advisor Traveler's Choice, earning the top 10% of restaurant reviews in the world, for two years running, and we’ve held a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for 7 years.
