Brookings police blotter

The police blotter is a public record of incidents as reported by law-enforcement agencies. All individuals arrested or charged with a crime are innocent until proven guilty. The information printed is preliminary and subject to change.

Tuesday, August 17

  • At 00:19 a.m. the police responded to the 600 block of Hemlock Street for a city ordinance violation. A person was cited for using a vehicle as a dwelling place on a public street.
  • At 00:31 a.m. the police responded to Mill Beach after a caller reported illegal camping. A male parked in a vehicle on private business property was advised he was trespassing, and moved along as directed.
  • At 3:23 a.m. the police responded to the end of Rowland Lane after a caller reported illegal camping. Occupants of a can camped at the street refused to answer doors for officers.
  • At 5:46 a.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of highway 101 and Pacific. The driver was cited for driving while suspended and a verbal warning for failing to carry current proof of insurance and failing to register a vehicle.
  • At 10:15 a.m. the police conducted a welfare check at the 1200 block of Moore Street.
  • At 10:26 a.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Rowland and Arnold. The driver was given a verbal warning for illegal stop and stand, and was submitted for retest.
  • At 11:39 a.m. firefighters responded to the 600 block of Spruce Street after a fire was reported. Upon arrival a fence was on fire behind Pacific Sushi, citizens had the fire almost put out with hose and fire extinguisher. Cause of the fire appeared to be careless extinguishment of cigarettes.
  • At 1:06 p.m. the police responded to highway 101 after a caller reported a traffic crash with no injury.
  • At 5:44 p.m. the police responded to the 500 block of Chetco Avenue after a caller reported unauthorized use of vehicle. An adult male took a brand new car for a  test drive around 10 am and has still not returned to the dealership by 6pm. Sirius was able to track the vehicle on HWY 101 NB from the seaside area, where troupers stopped the car. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Clatsop County Jail.
  • At 6:25 p.m. the police responded to the 300 block of 5th Street after a caller reported theft.Citizen watched two males remove a gas can that didn’t appear to belong to them from the bed of a pickup truck. Due to a time delay in reporting, officers were unable to locate the suspects or identify the victim’s vehicle.
  • At 8:55 p.m. the police responded to the 1600 block of highway 101 N after callers reported illegal fireworks. Multiple 911 and business line calls regarding illegal fireworks at Harris Beach, issue was resolved by park rangers without police assistance.

Wednesday, August 18

  • At 00:07 a.m. the po;oce responded to the Harris Beach Rest area after a caller reported a fight. A male and female having a loud verbal disagreement were recontacted by officers and agreed to move along so as not to generate more calls.
  • At 1:48 a.m. the police rescinded to Willow after a caller reported illegal camping.
  • At 8:23 a.m. the police conducted  a traffic stop at the intersection of Willow and Chetco. The driver was cited for speeding going 47mph in a 25mph zone.
  • At 11:06 a.m. the police responded to mill beach for a parking violation. A vehicle parked sideways across several parking sports, occupants were advised to move it and did so.
  • ASt 11:12 a.m. the police responded to the 1100 block of Ransom Avenue after a caller reported theft. Officer is investigating the theft of items from the pool locker.
  • At 12:00 p.m. the police responded to the 200 block of Wharf Street after a caller reported theft. Items were stolen from a business by a known subject.
  • At 2:59 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Ransom and 1st street. The driver was given a verbal warning for speeding.
  • At 3:20 p.m. the police responded to the 1000 block of 7th street after a caller reported theft. Two gas cans were stolen from a city-owned vehicle.
  • At 4:09 p.m. the police responded to the North bank chetco river road after a caller reported a traffic crash with injury
  • At 8:00 p.m. the police conducted a welfare check at Mill Beach.
  • At 10:03 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of chetco avenue and oak street. The driver was given a verbal warning for speeding.
  • At 10:28 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of chetco avenue and pacific. The driver was given a verbal warning for an illegal U-turn.
  • At 10:55 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of chetco avenue and 5th street. The driver was cited for driving while suspended violation (6th cite for same issue in the last year).

Thursday, August 19

  • At 7:31 a.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of chetco avenue and willow.
  • At 8:42 a.m. the police responded to the north bank chetco river road after a caller reported disorderly conduct. A female was warned for disorderly conduct after it was observed that she was throwing items and was yelling at passing cars.
  • At 10:54 a.m. the police responded to the 1100 block of Chetco avenue after a caller reported a traffic crash with no injury.
  • At 1:37 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of railroad street and willow street.
  • At 3:05 p.m. firefighters responded to the 16300 block of Grootendorst Lane after a caller reported an illegal burn.
  • At 5:48 p.m. the police conducted a welfare check at the 97000 block of Park Lane.
  • At 7:17 p.m. the police responded to the 400 block of Chetco avenue after a caller reported theft. A male suspect drove away from the gas station without paying for fuel.
  • At 9:08 p.m. the police responded to the 15900 block of Bayview Drive after a caller reported an animal complaint.
  • At 11:25 p.m. the police responded to the 16900 block of Crown Terrace after a caller reported illegal fireworks.

Friday, August 20

  • At 2:15 a.m. the police conducted a welfare check at the 1100 block of Chetco Avenue. Officers responded to a call to check the welfare of a female that had been in a restroom for quite some time. Female was ultimately trespassed from the location after lying about a medical issue.
  • At 2:15 a.m. the police responded to the 97800 block of court street after a caller reported loud noises.
  • At 9:02 a.m. the police responded to the 500 block of 5th street after a caller reported disorderly conduct. A male subject became disorderly after waiting for a covid test.
  • At 12:51 p.m. the police conducted a welfare check at the 16200 block of Hoffeldt Lane.
  • At 1:39 p.m. the police responded to the 200 block of Wharf Street after a caller reported unlawful entry of motor vehicles. A female was warned about attempting to get into vehicles not belonging to her.
  • At 3:25 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Easy street and chetco avenue.
  • At 5:10 p.m. the police responded to the 96700 block of Duley Creek Road after a caller reported an animal complaint.
  • At 8:04 p.m. the police responded to the intersection of highway 101 and harris beach after a caller reported a dispute. Officers responded to a domestic dispute taking place in the middle of highway 101. Parties agreed to separate for today.
  • At 9:01 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop on Chetco Avenue.
  • At 10:35 p.m. the police responded to the 600 block of Old County ROad after a caller reported disorderly conduct. Officers responded to a reporte of 4 intoxicated males bothering a group of juveniles playing basketball.
  • At 11:09 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Chetco Avenue and Oak Street.

Saturday, August 21

  • At 00:32 a.m. the police responded to the 1100 block of Chetco avenue after a caller reported a traffic crash with injury. One male was cited for driving while under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and reckless endangerment following a traffic crash causing minor injuries.
  • At 7:43 a.m. the police responded to the 1000 block of Chetco Avenue after a caller reported a fight. A male and a female were warned for disorderly conduct following a heated verbal dispute. They were also warned for theft of services by using an outside electrical outlet to charge their phones.
  • At 10:27 a.m. the police responded to the 600 block of Old County Road after a caller reported loud noises.
  • At 10:51 a.m. the police responded to the 1600 block of highway 101 after a caller reported a traffic crash with injury.
  • At 11:39 a.m. the police conducted a warrant service. A female was arrested on an outstanding warrant and lodged in the county jail.
  • At 1:09 p.m. the police responded to the 600 block of Old County Road after a caller reported an animal complaint.
  • At 1:53 p.m. the police conducted a welfare check at the north bank chetco river road.
  • At 3:36 p.m. the police responded to the 300 block of 5th street after a caller reported panhandling. Two males were warned for disorderly conduct as well as panhandling.
  • At 5:01 p.m. firefighters responded to the 17300 block of Carpentersville Road after a caller reported a fire. Upon arrival the fire was not as reported.
  • At 6:13 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Chetco avenue and bridge street.
  • At 7:10 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Oak street and Chetco Avenue.
  • At 7:40 p.m. firefighters responded to the redwood bar of the chetco river after a caller reported an illegal burn.
  • At 10:38 p.m. the police responded to bridge street after a caller reported an illegal burn.
  • At 11:26 p.m. the police conducted a warrant service on Wharf street. A male was cited and released on an outstanding warrant.
  • At 11:53 p.m. the [p;oce responded to the 900 block of chetco avenue after a caller reported a minor in possession. Juvenile on probation was arrested and turned over to Juvenile department custody after being arrested for minor in possession.

Sunday, August 22

  • At 00:27 the police responded to wharf street after a caller reported illegal camping.
  • At 9:27 a.m. the police responded to the 17200 block of Garvin court after a caller reported a fire.
  • At 10:36 a.m. the police responded to the 15100 block of highway 101 after a caller reported a fire.
  • At 12:37 p.m. the police responded to the 1300 block of Easy street after a caller reported a traffic crash with no injury.
  • At 12:41 p.m. the police responded to the 1600 block of highway 101 north after a caller reported an animal complaint.
  • At 5:07 p.m. the police responded to the 1100 block of fifield street after a caller reported harassment.
  • At 6:41 p.m. the police conducted a welfare check at the 16200 block of highway 101.
  • At 9:01 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Chetco avenue and Ransom avenue.
  • At 10:21 p.m. the police conducted a traffic stop on Ransom avenue.
