Dear Editor: First, the county commissioners have been looting money from the county’s Road Fund for use on non-road purposes, with no plan to ever repay it. Now, they’re attempting to raid the other Curry County taxing districts.
Are they commissioners, or pirates?
Have they checked the balance sheets for Brookings, Gold Beach and Port Orford? Perhaps they could hit up Bend or Washington County? I hear they’re doing pretty well.
Or are they dying to get their hands on the cemetery districts’ funds?
Seriously, it appears that at least Commissioner Paasch and Director Smeltzer, first, don’t understand the concept of fiduciary responsibility and how taxing districts work.
And, second, they believe they can better manage other taxing districts than the taxpayers and elected officials of those districts.
The county commissioners’ time and efforts would be better spent on directing the plans and policies of the county, rather than trying to manage other independent entities. Stick to your knitting!
