After years of waiting and political hassle, thank goodness we have an Emergency Department (ED) at Curry Medical Center (CMC) in Brookings! On Friday, Feb. 21 at about 4 a.m. I suffered a broken arm at home and:

• A wonderful and caring crew from Cal-Ore Life Flight arrived to pick me up from the floor and transport me by ambulance to CMC.

• Upon arrival at the CMC ED, I was greeted by a caring and experienced medical staff who immediately evaluated my situation, secured an X-ray and stabilized my arm.

• The CMC medical team then proceeded to make an appointment for me to see Dr. Partick Denard at Southern Oregon Orthopedics (SOO) in Medford. Surgery at Providence quickly followed.

Great service by all at CMC, SOO and Providence. It was seamless. And I am now recovering well at home.

My sincere thanks to the 9-1-1 dispatcher, the Cal-Ore crew, the police officer who came to assist, and the CMC intake workers, nurses, technicians and Dr. Adam Mankowski who took care of my medical emergency here in Brookings. And thanks to my husband, retired City Manager Gary Milliman, and former Mayor Ron Hedenskog for leading the charge to get an ED in Brookings.
