I want to thank Julie Schmelzer and our three commissioners for their support in establishing the Suicide Awareness and Prevention Council, to see what is possible to reduce the number of suicides and attempts in Curry County.

However, that's the easy part. It brings with it a huge challenge: To find qualified citizens who have the knowledge, passion, determination and drive, backed by lived experience, to volunteer to learn why our suicide rates continue to rise, and to find and implement solutions.

The council will consist of 17 members, each serving a four-year term except a youth ambassador, who will serve one year. The members will represent one of a variety of disciplines, including law enforcement, medicine, veterans’ services, education and others.

Please apply for one of these positions (https://bit.ly/2WjSh2C).

Do you think there should be bans on people staying in hotels and motels during the coronavirus pandemic?

Cities along the coast in Oregon have put bans in place to stop people from coming from other areas and staying in their cities and possibly spreading the coronavirus.
