Dear Editor: A recent visit to the new ER at the Curry Health Clinic on 5th Street left me very favorably impressed.

My mother-in-law had taken a fall and needed X-rays. We were triaged promptly and taken in to the ER quickly. I was impressed with the staff and the easy way they worked together. Kind of surprising, for such a new ER.

The doctor was very friendly and I really appreciated her allowing me to view Mom’s x-rays after obtaining Mom’s permission.

All in all, I feel the community is truly blessed to have the facility and I’d like to thank all of the people who worked so hard to get it approved.

I’m a retired RN and worked about 22 years in ERs, most recently at Sutter Coast Hospital. I have always been deeply concerned about the distance needed to travel from Brookings for a truly acute emergency.

Although the community has always been in excellent hands for transportation with Cal-Ore Life Flight, the distance from Brookings to Sutter does diminish the chances for a successful outcome.

That distance is no longer such a formidable barrier. It is going to make a difference, and lives that would have passed are going to be saved.

Thank you, Curry Health and the ER staff. And a special thanks to all of the nurses.
