SWOCC Curry campus’ Dr. Doug Bunn misspoke, by saying the college district is under attack, during the Chetco Library Special District follow-up meeting on Monday.
Note to Dr. Bunn: No one is being attacked by the county. It’s called accountability!
Please reference the $2.2 million tax base collected from the SWOCC college district; only $850,000 in expenses at the Curry campus, while $1.3 million additional is collected but not used in Curry County.
Bad return on investment? That’s the problem.
It is irresponsible for the dean to expect the county not to ask questions. When not getting transparent, fully “contexted” legitimate answers, the county should keep asking questions. That’s their job and is simply not attacking.
Has Dr. Bunn confused the definitions of “accountability” and “attacking,” or is he not acknowledging his conflicted position at the Curry campus: i.e., how can Dr. Bunn advocate for Curry campus if his main responsibility is to benefit interests of the college district?
Differences in roles, Dr. Bunn, are not attacks. To suggest otherwise, again, is off base – a poor choice of words, at minimum.
Misreporting/misspeaking by this stakeholder is not only disappointing, it is another red flag and a kick in local governments’ important “moral compass” with regards to “guarding the public trust.”
Sensationalizing and saying the college district and library districts are under attack by the county is malarkey.
