There are wonderful people who help others almost automatically. One of those is the delivery truck driver who stopped to help on Tuesday, March 19 at about 8 a.m. at the U.S. 101 Indian Sands turnoff north of Brookings.
I was riding my motorcycle and was making a sharp turn there to avoid the mud and gravel, and in the process dropped my motorcycle. The driver was headed south towards Brookings and interrupted what likely was his busy delivery schedule and stopped to make certain that I was all right and also helped me to get my motorcycle upright.
This is a huge thank you to him and a reminder of what a great area we live in for people showing kindness to others. The total damage to me and to my motorcycle thankfully was limited to one scuffed boot toe. It was a blessing that he did what he did since it obviously could have been much worse.
Welcome Home Vets
March 29 has been designated as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day by a resolution of Congress. For us who have served, belated recognition of the service who served in Southeast Asia during the years of what was then America’s longest war, it is appreciated.
When I returned, I was ignored at best. The psychological issues faced by many Vietnam vets can be traced not simply to what they experienced in Vietnam but to their experience on our return home.
Americans are belatedly embracing Vietnam veterans, having come to the realization that those who served, fought as well as our fathers and uncles did in World War II and in Korea. Fifty years have passed since the beginning of that ill-fated venture. Events are being planned nationally as well as locally to honor those who served and to remember those who were lost to the war. Better late than never but it is never too late to say, “Thank you for your service, and welcome home.”
“No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now. Rarely have so many people been so wrong about so much... Never have the consequences of their misunderstanding been so tragic.” — Richard Nixon from his book, “No More Vietnams”. While Richard Nixon might have had his faults as president, the above statement about the Vietnam War is spot on.
God Bless America, home of the brave and land of the free.
It has been almost three and a half years since over 63 percent of us voted against annexation to the Curry Health District (CHD). The promises that we would have an Emergency Room (ER) even if we didn’t annex, was just like the promises we received previously.
Back then, there were many officials telling us that a stand-alone ER was, in fact, the only option that we could get for better health care and a faster way to get hospital care. The problem lies with the things they didn’t tell us.
Truth is: a stand-alone ER in Brookings means that ambulances would have to take you there, we would have no choice but to go by ambulance to Sutter.
Truth is: we can’t have a different hospital/ER provider in Brookings because CHD has special Critical Access status.
Truth is: a stand-alone ER isn’t all that we could have in Brookings. We could have a satellite hospital with an ER and we’d have better, safer, and less expensive services.
Truth is: the federal government “frowns on” stand-alone ER’s for those very reasons. You would have to be transported at least twice for needed surgery, an ICU or even observation.
Truth is: the Oregon Health Authority seems more interested in the financial survival of CHD than the people’s survival.
Truth is: their CEO is pushing to get emergency money from the government to open the ER. We would be locked into their system and have to pay to get to Sutter Coast from their ER.
Truth is: CHD is using the U.S. 101 failure to get more tax money and force the majority of Curry County citizens to use the hospital in Gold Beach. They don’t seem to be aware of how very important time is in getting the needed services.
We need to let our local and state officials know that wherever their campaign support came from, they have sworn to represent us. Tell our federal representatives also.
I am not sure why but Harbor now has adult store. And why do we need that in our small area? I doubt we do.
We’re not some big city. I am at a real loss here and disgusted. No, I am not some primpy woman. I just think its wrong for us to have a porn shop and that’s what it is, porn. And I for one hope it fails.

Freedom of Speech
You guys have the gall to publish a letter from some political hack that lectures us about the freedom of the press. What? Arianna Huffington or George Soros were not available?
There are big mouths at Big Tech companies who brag to stupid politicians at public hearings about how they are doing their level best to try and have Alex Jones banned completely from the internet. Paul Manafort gets put in prison because he dared to be Trump’s campaign manager. Roger Stone gets legal harassment just because he supports President Trump. Jussie Smollett sends racist hate letters to himself and media Trump haters like Robin Roberts are only too happy to sing his praises.
What a bunch of phony baloney hooey. It is obvious to me that the lamestream media and the anarchists who have taken over the Democrat Party only believe in freedom of speech for themselves. Everyone else needs to look out. The way the feds are going after Stone is an absolute disgrace. People should give some
money to his legal defense fund.
Thanking GB FDP
I wanted to publicly thank the Gold Beach Fire Department. On March 17, my husband Rey suffered an episode that mirrored a heart attack and I called 911. Paramedics showed up in less than 10 minutes and the fire department was also alerted and firemen showed up from all over. Not only the firemen from the firehouse but firemen showed up from their homes.
We are new to this area and are transplants from Southern California. That being said, we are not used to small-town life and I have to say we love it here not only the beauty that surrounds us but the people are unbelievably kind and willing to help.
Thanks again to all who showed up and helped.
In 1952 a massive storm broke a tanker in half and stranded sailors on a sinking ship off the Massachusetts coast. Four Coast Guard men in a lifeboat, in a raging storm, rescued over 40 men. It is one of the greatest rescues in the history of the U.S. Coast Guard.
In Luke 19:10, Jesus declared His own rescue mission: “The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Next Easter Week, Christians will celebrate the crucifixion and resurrection, as the ultimate expression of rescue, as Jesus took on Himself our sins and restored to the Father all who trust in Him. When Jesus returns he will come to judge the world, and punish those who reject his rescue.
Progressive liberal theologians reject the Biblical concept of coming judgment. They claim just the opposite, that the world is getting better. They believe a God without wrath will bring men without sin into a kingdom without judgment, through a Christ without a cross. Liberal theologians inevitably turn to collectivism and the welfare state. Socialism, the social gospel, and liberation theology have all been championed by progressives.
Progressives often use man caused global warming as an attack on capitalism. However, Dr. Michael Mann’s infamous hockey stick graph showing increased warming, ignores the medieval warm period and the Little Ice Age.
The 1990’s were not the warmest period. Elephants and tigers roamed tropical jungles north of the Siberian Arctic in past periods. CO2 is only a trace element in the atmosphere. The majority of CO2 is produced by natural sources such as volcanoes, and release of CO2 from oceans. Man only produces 3 percent. CO2 levels track global warming, which is caused by sun activity, clouds and ocean currents. If progressives such as Ocasio-Cortez and Beto O’Rourke want to save the planet, they should talk less about climate change, and more about coming judgment from God.
