In a letter to the editor on September 17, Howard Glasser addressed the value that local community radio brings to our area. He applauded community radio as some of the finest ever aired, and correctly termed it the “voice of the people, not beholden to commercial interests.”

As board secretary for Curry Coast Community Radio (KCIW 100.7FM), I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Howard Glasser for his support of community radio, and his appreciation of our local community radio station. When you tune in to 100.7FM, you’re often hearing radio programs produced by local volunteers who care deeply about our local area and the folks who live here. Many of the programs you hear on 100.7 are recorded and produced by people living right here in Brookings.

Even our syndicated programming is carefully chosen and curated by our all-volunteer production teams, and only gets on the air with the help of our tech-oriented volunteers. Of course, none of this would be possible without the financial help of generous donors in our community. The KCIW Board of Directors wants to extend a huge round of thanks to these donors. Without you, we wouldn’t have this valuable community radio station reaching listeners in Brookings and beyond.

Special thanks are due to all who responded to our recent “Antenna Moving” fundraising campaign. Although our antenna is currently located on the city’s tower, our annual lease is expiring soon and won’t be renewed. So, the only way for KCIW to continue broadcasting to the citizens of Brookings is to move our antenna, at a significant cost to KCIW. Because of the very generous donations from many of our listeners, KCIW now has the funds needed to make the move. Thank you, one and all.
