I currently live in Ashland, but I am a frequent visitor to the coast. I am on a waiting list for an apartment in Brookings and look forward to spending my "golden" years there. As a child growing up in Oregon, conservation and appreciation of nature was taught at home and in school: a lesson that stayed with me all my life.

I have witnessed visitors kicking exposed mussels, trying to pry barnacles off rocks and walking on anemones. I would encourage hotels, motels, B&Bs to at least offer written material or talk to their guests about the sensitive environment we need to protect. We can't assume that visitors understand about our environment and natural treasures.
