Did you know, in Brookings you can pay a fee to be allowed to swear in public - in front of children?
True story. A person on Meadow Lane put up a sign in his front yard that says “F - - - Biden and F - - - you if you voted for him.” (His sign actually spells out the word in letters a foot high.) When neighbors complained to the city, they were told that the man had paid a fee to the city to allow him to keep a “political” sign in his yard beyond the seven-day limit after the election. Would you define that as a political sign? I always thought political signs said stuff like, Vote for So and So.
C’mon, What kind of example does that set for our children?
This is not about freedom of speech. He could have said “I hate the president.” Fine, I could be OK with that. But this is an assault on civility supported by our city government by accepting a payoff. I guess people with vocabularies so limited they have to use the F-word so much probably don’t know the meaning of civility. Look it up.
