It is a relief that the most recent ballot measure was resoundingly defeated. It is a shame that city and county elected officials do not prioritize support for what our communities want. Could we have had an aquatic center, benefitting us all, if tax money had not been spent on political priorities?

Some of the questions/issues include:

⦁ Where is the Mr. Hedenskog that touted his caring for those in need by serving meals at St. Timothy’s?

⦁ How did the city approve hundreds of thousands of dollars to subsidize infrastructure for Rio Tinto?

⦁ Why did the city spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in lobbying, legal fees, travel and meetings for a new Oregon Administrative Rule allowing the ER on 5th Street, with NO input from the electors?

⦁ Which mayor was it who chaired the Curry Health District PAC to annex all of 97415?

⦁ Which officials have been spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on Salmon Run and are now planning to pay $385,000 to Freeman Trusts for access to unaccountable Chetco water?

⦁ And, who decided the way to have an aquatic center was another special tax district?

Don’t forget the “county fathers” Boice & Herzog. (Paasch voted “No”)

⦁ Do they believe folks don’t see purchases, like a whole new fleet of expensive trucks?

⦁ Salary increases: County assessor 14%; county clerk 12%; (both listed as “approximate”) plus up to $1,300/month for medical dental and vision insurance.

⦁ Do they think the taxpayers aren’t aware that the real benefits are the untaxed “employee” fringe benefits, averaging another 60% of salaries?

⦁ Do they hope no one will ask for documentation on the costs and payments for these elections?

The continued attempts to raise taxes in 97415 will (hopefully) continue to fail without public fiscal accountability.
