Thank you for allowing space in your newspapers to extend an overdue thank you to former Brookings City Manager Gary Milliman. I’ve only been a commissioner for two-plus years, so watching his consistent work and success has been nothing short of inspirational. In my view, his wisdom and local leadership is without equal.
Yes, he was the Brookings city manager for many years but has also been and remains an excellent ambassador for Curry County. Our citizens are fortunate as, and no surprise, he continues his contributions with a full schedule of pro bono volunteer work.
One example: I sit on the Southwest Oregon Commission on Transportation Board, Coos-Curry-Douglas counties where Milliman is an effective chair for this very important Department of Transportation program and especially now with the poor condition of our Highway 101. Certainly, I could point to many issues and problems facing our county where Milliman has been instrumental to sound problem solving, but his proficiency on the SWACT Board is gaining important results here.
As I work and correspond locally and throughout Oregon, I’ve been able to find focus for important Curry issues. This past 10 years, no county, and specifically no community in Oregon has been hit harder than Brookings-Harbor. Yes, we’re of good fortune to have Milliman on our team as we move forward.
