Sandra Jean (Way) Hislop

Sandra Jean (Way) Hislop passed away on a beautiful Sunday afternoon on January 21, 2021. Sandy moved to Brookings from Myrtle Creek in 1953.

She had two restaurants: Sandy’s Country Kitchen and The Nautical Inn. That was a very big part of her life. Over the years at Sandy’s Country Kitchen, all the girls that worked for her were her family too, even when she was on the warpath.

She volunteered in so many activities in the community: The Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Azalea Festival, Chetco Museum and so many other activities it’s hard to count. Helping at the Chetco Museum was part of her pastime because of her knowledge of the area and the people who were here before her. She always wanted to give back to her community as much as she could.

After retiring, she enjoyed travelling with her best friend Shelia. Golfing with the Ladies Club at Salmon Run was probably her greatest enjoyment. She so much wanted to play one more round with her friends. She was so grateful for all the cards she received over the holidays. She wanted to thank everyone for them.

Sandy is survived by her brother Larry (Diane) Way of Burlington, Washington; brother Gary Way of Baker City, Oregon; daughter Nicola Hedberg of Brookings, son Kevin Hedberg of Astoria, OR; four grandchildren and three great-grandkids.

To everyone that knew her, we have all lost a piece of our hearts, but the memories will always be with us. You will be missed by so many people. It would take a special edition of the paper to tell everything she has done.

Look out Heaven, here she comes!
