Patti Sue Russell Rice, 61, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 9, 2020.
Patti was born on October 6, 1958, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Patty Sue Russell and Oliver Russell. She joined her brothers Wesley, Jay, Willie and sister Debbie as the treasured baby of the family.
After the death of her beloved mother Patty Sue, Patti relocated to Porterville, California. Patti was an active member of her high school student body and a proud cheerleader. In June 1976 Patti welcomed her son Marcus Lee Melton. She was an active and celebrated member of the Porterville community. In January 1984 she welcomed her son Zackary Oliver Melton.
In 1984 Patti met the love of her life Eddie Ray Rice and on August 3, 1985, they married. Adding to her loving family Eddie’s children Saoirse, Michael, and David.
Patti and Ed built their life in Bakersfield, Calif. Patti was known for her infectious laughter and bigger than life personality. She was one-of-a-kind, once-in-a-lifetime wife, mother, sister, aunt, and Nanny.
Patti and Ed went on to welcome 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Patti was an adoring Nanny and took no greater joy than in the company of her grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews.
In 2013 Patti and Ed picked up and relocated to the beautiful community of Brookings, Ore., where they were welcomed with open and loving arms by their treasured friends who soon became family.
Patti enjoyed a position as a receptionist at the Brookings’ Elks Lodge.
The Patti stories are endless. She had a sense of humor like no other.
Patti is welcomed into heaven by her parents Patti and Oliver as well as her brother Jay.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Rice, her children and spouses; Saoirse and Scott Wheeler, Marcus and Kim Melton, Michael Rice, David and Melissa Rice, and Zackary Melton and his partner Sonia Ruiz.
A celebration of life for Patti will be held at a later date in her favorite place on Earth, Las Vegas.
