Karen Lee Roe, 71, of Gold Beach, peacefully passed away on Nov. 30, 2019 in her own home surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born as Karen Lee Brown on Dec. 6, 1947 in Portland, Oregon to Violet and Anderson Brown. She graduated high school in 1966 and shortly after moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where she started her career as a bartender and shop owner of Antiques/Collectibles. She gave birth to two daughters; Kandice and Kristina while living in Alaska. In 1987 she moved to Gold Beach, Oregon where she would then consider her home. The year 1999 was a big year for Karen, she became a grandma in April (She absolutely loved being a grandma) and then in November she married Robert Roe, her best friend and gained three step-children Rob, Erin and Stephanie.
Over the years, she worked in different places; Gold Beach Lumber, Ray’s Food Place, Chetco Federal Credit Union, Interior Coverups, Etc., but eventually was drawn back to her love of bartending where she worked at Spinner’s Restaurant for the past 16 years and was one of the best there. She also opened her own antique and collectibles shop she called “The Pink Flamingo.” Karen loved interacting with her customers at both places, she actually considered a lot of them more like family. She was involved with a lot of community things as well like the Moose Lodge, Chamber of Commerce and others over the years.
Christmas was Karen’s favorite time of year; she loved all the lights and “blingy” things about it. She made sure to decorate the inside of her house early this year, which made it nice that she was surrounded by it all when she passed away. Karen will truly be missed.
She was preceded in death by her dad; Anderson Brown and her first-born daughter; KorLyn.
She is survived by her husband; Robert Roe, mother; Violet Brown, daughters; Kandice Allen and Kristina Ringer, sisters; Judy Karabach and Laurie Lawrence, step-children; Rob, Erin and Stephanie, grandson’s; Brendan Dame and Jaden White, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that are just like family.
