James DeWayne Carpenter born February 8, 1954, to Arnold and Ila Carpenter in Gold Beach Oregon. Passed June 29, 2020. He attended school for a short time in Pistol River before moving to Brookings.
He was a graduate of Brookings-Harbor High School. He married Charleen Harrison in 1974, and had his first son Shannon DeWayne Carpenter.
Later he had a second son Dustin Ray Carpenter, and a step-daughter Christie Swafford with Vickie Hoffer.
Known as Jamie, his career began at the local feed store. He also worked at the mill and in the logging industry. He spent the remainder of his career working alongside his father on the family ranch.
Hobbies included hunting, fishing, mushroom picking, bowling, playing golf, horse shoes, and hunting for arrowheads. He also enjoyed a good poker game with friends.
Preceded in death by both parents and many lifelong friends. He is survived by sister Ardawn Mercer (Dan), son Shannon Carpenter, son Dustin Carpenter (Maria), step-daughter Christie and family, grandchildren Taylynn Carpenter (Nixon), Aden Carpenter and Mya Carpenter, Great Grandson Turner Nixon and nephew Joe Mercer and family.
