Genevieve Ann Naugle

It is with utmost sorrow and deep sadness to announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Genevieve (Genny) A. Naugle, 86, of Smith River (CA), on November 4th 2021, after several months of medical complications at Sutter Hospital in Sacramento, CA.

Born in Minersville, PA on October 24, 1935, Genny was the daughter of the late Anna Oplansky (Dragonis) and Thomas Oplansky, an immigrant from Lithuania. She was a graduate of Minersville High School and the Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing (Philadelphia, PA). She worked as a charge nurse in a Philadelphia hospital, then moved to the West coast with her husband, Floyd, and returned to Pennsylvania in 1976. When her children were in high school/college, she went back to work as the onsite nurse at Brookline Retirement Home in State College, PA.

Genny and Floyd moved back to the West in 1991 (Medford, OR then later, Smith River, CA). Genny was active in the community of Brookings (Southern Oregon), enjoyed lunches and gatherings with friends and family, and loved watching the views of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. She was one of the original founders of the Brookings Red Hat Society in December 2003; was an active member of the Brookings Presbyterian Church; and was also an active supporter and contributor to the Brookings Soroptimist International organization. She enjoyed her weekly Bible studies, and making greeting cards from nature photos which she regularly gave to friends and family.

Genny is survived by her husband, Dr. Floyd P. Naugle, her son, Robert Naugle (Smith River, CA), her two daughters, Kathleen Ansari and Janet Higginbotham (San Jose, CA) and her son-in-law Patrick Wai (Sunnyvale, CA). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren (Alex Higginbotham, Elaine Higginbotham, Anna Higginbotham-Castaneda, Matthew Higginbotham, Maria Higginbotham, Michael Higginbotham, and Justin and Meredith Wai), her two great grandchildren (Lilliana and JJ Castaneda); and her nieces and nephews.

Genny was preceded in death by her older brother, Jerome Oplansky (Spokane, WA), eldest sister Helen Kimmel (Orwigsburg, PA), and her daughter, Elaine Wai (Sunnyvale, CA). Shortly after Genny’s passing, her older sister, Dorothy Piccioni of Pottsville, PA, passed away on Dec. 28th.

Arrangements for a Celebration of Life Memorial Service in Brookings will be provided at a later date. Any donations in Genny’s memory are preferred to be made to the Brookings Presbyterian Church at P.O. Box 697, Brookings, OR 97415 (541-469-3725).
