Ernest Eugene Krauss, passed away on Nov. 22, 2019 at Veterans Hospital, Portland, Oregon.  He was born Nov. 1, 1925 to Fritz Krauss and Susan Tolin Krauss of Salem, Oregon.

Ernie, as he preferred, graduated from Kerby Union High School, Kerby, Oregon, in the class of 1944.  He remained active in his high school alumni association throughout his lifetime.

After graduating from high school, he attempted to enlist in the military, but health reasons denied him the opportunity.  Eventually he was accepted by the Merchant Marines where he proudly served until the end of World War II. Later, he found great joy in his career as a logger.  His relaxation was found on his boat out on the ocean where he loved to take friends fishing.

He married Elodie Krausse, and they spent their retirement years between  Mount Shasta, California and Brookings. His was predeceased him in Aug. 2019, and he moved to Washougal, Washington where he lived with his sister Carmelita Hussey.

Ernie was predeceased by his father Fritz Krauss; mother Susan Krauss; brothers William Krauss and Kenneth Krauss.  He is survived by sister Carmelita Hussey; brother Kohath; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Jan. 18, 2020, in Vancouver, Washington at All Country Cremation (360-718-7948).
