Darwin Leslie Rasmussen

Darwin (“Dar”) L. Rasmussen died on June 14, 2021 in Brookings, Oregon at the age of 91 years. Dar was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and moved Oregon after he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1952. After receiving his teaching certificate from Oregon State University, he lived with his first wife in Mt. Vernon and Portland, Oregon while raising his children and teaching school.

After his first marriage ended, Dar took a position as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Department of Human Services in Curry County and moved to North Bend, Oregon. It was while working at the Brookings office that he met his second wife, Connie Niemi, who he married on July 5, 1976. After Dar’s retirement in 1991, the couple moved to Brookings, Oregon where they lived happily until Connie’s death in March 2009. They had been married almost 35 years. Dar continued to live in the Brookings area until his recent death.

Dar is survived by three of his children, Rick, Penny and Randy Rasmussen, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was precedent in death by his wife, Connie, her two children, Dayle Niemi and Debbie Niemi, and his daughter, Pat Sweet.
