Daisy Maye Kunkel

Daisy, a loving mother and nana passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 79 with family by her side. She will be missed.

Daisy was born in Hartshorne OK, the youngest of four children to Charles Isaiah Humphrey and Fannie Mildred Humphrey. The family moved from OK to Bakersfield CA. Where Daisy attended school. After graduation Daisy moved to San Luis Obispo, CA and worked as a secretary at the local police dept. where she met her first husband Richard Schacht. They married in 1961 and moved to Morro Bay Ca where they raised their two children. Daisy was a legal secretary then went to work at Bank of America as an escrow officer. She became a widow in 1980. Daisy met Earl Kunkel in 1981 and they married March 18th 1983. Daisy and Earl moved to Brookings full time in 1988.

Daisy was a very active part of the fishing community for many years. She joined the Fisherman’s Wive’s association and was active in organizing events and bbq’s upriver. Daisy was a familiar presence in the Port for many years running the filet station and working at Dick & Casey’s. She became the manager of Tonapah Village mobile home park in 1996 and continued ‘til her passing. She was also a very active member of the local Elk’s Lodge for many years.

Daisy loved her family and friends dearly. She enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations and spent time with her children, granddaughters and great grandchildren on a daily basis. She loved dancing with Earl at every opportunity. Daisy was a social butterfly and loved meeting and connecting with people. She had many close friends that she enjoyed sharing a glass of wine with. Most of all, Daisy loved her beautiful garden and spent many hours working in it.

Daisy is survived by daughter Julie Tomlinson, son Rick Schacht, granddaughter Stacy Tomlinson (Shane Nation), granddaughter Jamie Tomlinson, great grandchildren Hunter Tavel, Sydnei Nation, Athena Tavel and Saydee Nation and several nieces and nephews.

Daisy is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mildred Humphrey, her first husband Richard Schacht, second husband Earl Kunkel, brother Sydney Humphrey, sister Juanita Humphrey Clark and brother C.I. Humphrey.

There will be a memorial service for Daisy on November 10th at the Elk’s Lodge at 11 a.m. with a pot luck to follow.
