Barbara Schlenz, 88, of Brookings, passed away on Wed., April 24, 2019 at Curry General Hospital in Gold Beach with her daughter and close friends by her side.

Barbara Jean Hale was born on Dec. 31, 1930 in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in the Los Angeles area, graduated from Woodrow Wilson Senior High School and studied music and piano. Barbara married Paul Schlenz in 1952 and they raised their three children; Mark, Scott and Paula in Baldwin Park, California while Paul served in the Los Angeles Police Department. She was employed as an executive secretary at Miller Brewing Company in Irwindale and following Paul’s retirement from the police force in 1990, they retired to Lake Nacimiento near Paso Robles, California. After Paul’s death in late 1991, Barbara relocated to Brookings. She and her partner Bill Myers relaxed in their beautiful home on Brooke Lane, enjoying excursions by boat and camping trailer. After Bill’s passing Barbara remained active in the cultural life of Brookings studying TaiChi, gardening, performing with the ORCA Singers and singing in the choir at the Brookings Presbyterian Church. She moved to Sea View Senior Living Community in 2018 with her beloved ShiTzu Sarah and adopted a cat, Bessie.

Barbara is survived by her son, Mark Schlenz of Bozeman, Montana; her daughter, Paula Jean Hale of Fort Bragg, California; and half sister Donna Chaffee of Huntington Beach, California.

Memorial Services for Barbara Schlenz are scheduled for Thursday, May 30 at 2pm at Brookings Presbyterian Church, 540 Pacific Ave., Brookings. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to South Coast Humane Society, PO Box 7833, Brookings, OR 97415
