Ross Ringer, 67, of Fairbanks, Alaska, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 29, 2018, while visiting his second home in Gold Beach. Ross was born on Dec. 19, 1951, in Hood River to Rodney and Alice (Pedersen) Ringer.

Ross was named after his great-grandfather Ross Ringer while his middle name is from his mother’s side of her family, the Pedersen’s. Ross grew up in Milton-Freewater as the oldest of three siblings with brother Reed and sister Lisa.

Ross attended McLoughlin High School where he was very active in sports, especially football. He was in the graduating class of 1970. After high school, having married Linda (Bird) Morgan, they had a daughter name Shelli. Ross worked heavy equipment and logging until he decided to go to Fairbanks in the late 70’s hauling for the pipeline. While in Fairbanks, Alaska Ross married Karen (Brown) Roe and welcomed two more daughters Kandice and Kristina.

Ross moved his family to Gold Beach in 1987 and became a contractor specializing in excavating, logging, and trucking. Ross loved pushing dirt and digging holes !!!

Ross met Kristi Tucker in 1966, they married in July 4, 2003, in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

When the recession of 2008 occurred and work slowed down for Ross, he made a few phone calls and went back to Fairbanks as a truck driver for Alaska West Express. Wanting to be his own boss, a year later Ross and Kristi bought a Peterbilt and became an owner/operator for Alaska West Express. Ross was what we in the Lower 48 call an “Ice Road Trucker.” He ran the Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay.

Ross’s friends and family will remember him for his sense of humor, caring thoughts and for always being just a phone call away no matter what time it was.

Ross was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Pearl Ringer; maternal grandparents, J.D. “Jiggs” and Kathryn Pedersen; parents, Rodney Ringer and Alice (Pedersen) Frank; mother-in-law, Connie Hipgen; and The Favorite Aunt Bonnie Brenning.

He is survived by his wife, Kristi Ringer; daughters, Shelli Peterson, Kandice Allen and Kristina Ringer; step-sons, Steve Tucker and Jim Tucker; brother, Reed Ringer and sister, Lisa Ringer-Pedersen; brother-in-law, Jack Trachsel and father-in-law, Larry Nipgen; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and former wives, Linda Morgan and Karen Roe, all of Oregon.

On June 30, 2018, in Alaska at Fox Park, Ross and Kristi’s Fairbanks Trucking Family and Friends celebrated his life.

Some of Ross’s ashes will be spread both in Oregon and in Alaska on the Haul Road, so a part of him will be with all of us.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 2 p.m. at The Event Center on the Beach in the showcase building for his Oregon families and friends to celebrate him again.
