The world lost a kind man with a dry sense of humor when Alan McGuiness passed away on April 25, 2018.

He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Patricia McGuiness, brother Ian “Mike” McGuiness; sister Dianne Tolley; daughters Shannon McGuiness and Erin Popoff; three grandchildren, Hunter Clarno, Katerina and Keller Popoff; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Alan’s hobbies included spending time with family, reading every book he could get his hands on, communication on his ham radios with people in hundreds of countries (his call sign was W1NDY), having morning coffee with the other Curmudgeons at the Coffee Dock, and extensive genealogy research (including teaching the occasional class.)

Becoming a U.S. citizen at age 47 was just one of Alan’s many accomplishments. Alan served on the Curry Public Library Board for 27 years and the Rogue River Cemetery Board for 11 years. He traveled the world, both for work then for fun, including multiple visits to his native country, New Zealand. Alan penned the first few sentences of every essay his children wrote and could think of a “$10 word” for any occasion even when a simpler word would suffice. He will be dearly missed by those who love him.

A Celebration Of Life honoring Alan will be held at the First Baptist Church in Gold Beach on June 16, 2018, at 1 p.m. His family invites friends to come and remember him together.
