Mary Anne Stoddard passed away peacefully Nov. 16, 2017, in Brookings after a brief illness. Mary Anne was born June 12, 1944, to Elmer and Margaret Hemingway in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Macalester College with a teaching degree, and married Kenneth R. Stoddard in 1965.

Together they lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, Grand Rapids and Detroit, Michigan, and Gold Beach, until Kenneth’s death.

While in the Detroit area, Mary Anne earned a master’s degree and began working with special-needs children. After their move to Oregon, Mary Anne began work with the Brookings-Harbor School District. She retired in 2006.

Mary Anne is survived by her siblings Bette, Bruce, Richard and David; several nieces and nephews in her family and Kenneth’s family.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
