Amy E. Remy, 78, of Gold Beach, passed away Oct. 27, 2017, in Gold Beach.

Amy was born Nov. 10, 1938, in Jacksonville, to Marvin and Gladys (Hoffman) Johnson.

She grew up in Gold Beach, where her family moved when she was a child.

Following high school, Amy attended Linfield College; she graduated in 1961. That same year she married Thomas Remy.

The couple returned to Gold Beach where she worked as a social worker until her daughter Caren, was born. She then stayed home to raise kids. The family moved to Arizona, Florida and California before returning to Gold Beach in 1990, where they built their retirement home.

Amy loved crocheting, gardening and writing poetry. Amy sang in the community choir and was involved in community theater. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was active in humanitarian aid projects and genealogy.

Survivors include her children Jenifer Plummer and her husband, William of Gold Beach, Caren Vastine and husband Stan of Gold Beach, Thomas A. Remy of Gold Beach, Rachel Clark and her husband, Rob of Adair, Kevin Dent and his wife, Jessica of Beaverton; sister, Martha Officer of Roseburg, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas; son Benjamin; brother Clarence Johnson; half-brothers Roy and George Johnson.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, those who wish to do an act of kindness in Amy’s memory continue her legacy of kindness and generosity.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 94161 Fifth Place, Gold Beach. A potluck reception will follow the service at the church.

The family would like express their appreciation for the staff at Curry General Hospital who provided excellent and compassionate care during mom’s last days.
