Domestic Dispute

The Curry County District Attorney will review the case and subpoena records to determine if charges will be filed.

A domestic dispute sends three people, including a baby, to a regional hospital.

According to Curry County Sheriff Lieutenant John Ensley, the dispute between a Brookings area couple, Nicholas Wymer, 25, and his wife Kathryn Wymer, 22, occurred on Sunday evening, Dec. 1, at a Harbor shopping center on south Highway 101.

Easley said 911 dispatchers received an emergency call at 6:34 p.m. for a “dropped baby” at the Harbor Chevron, across from the shopping center. According to witnesses interviewed by a sheriff deputy, the mother allegedly had tackled her husband who was holding the baby, and all three fell to the ground.

When the sheriff’s deputy arrived at the service station where the incident occurred, Ensley said the mother had already run across U.S. Highway 101 to the Dutch Brothers located in the shopping center on the east side of the highway.

The mother ran back toward the highway, stopped at the curb and appeared to make a motion that she had stabbed herself, Ensley said. As the deputy approached her, she again ran back towards the Dutch Brothers, where he repeatedly ordered her to drop the knife. She did not respond to his orders and began stabbing herself over and over, according to Ensley.

The deputy requested backup, with Brookings Police Department and Oregon State Police arriving to assist.

After the woman fell to the ground, she was taken to Sutter Coast Hospital. The father and baby were taken to the hospital in a separate ambulance. Kathryn Wymer was later flown from Sutter to another hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

The investigation is continuing. Ensley said that the Curry County District Attorney will review the case and subpoena records to determine if charges will be filed.

As of Dec. 3, Kathryn Wymer’s injuries are too severe to allow investigators to interview her. The current status of all three patients is unavailable due to patient privacy regulations.
