Sunday, July 28

At about 4 p.m., a southbound vehicle reportedly entered the northbound lane on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 311.5, causing a northbound vehicle to strike the east-side barrier. The vehicle was totaled as a result of the collision, but no injuries or damage to ODOT property were associated with the incident.

Tuesday, July 30

At about 3:11 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted on a motor vehicle for a speed violation on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 340. An adult passenger under the age of 21 was discovered to be in the unlawful possession of marijuana and issued a citation. The operator of the vehicle was issued a citation for speed.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., a mother of two teenaged girls (ages 12 and 15) called to report her daughters had been abandoned at Secret Beach by the father, who was taking them on vacation from Michigan. Girls were located and interviewed. They reportedly did not want to leave the beach when their father said it was time to go. The father left them and went to the adjacent Natural Bridges in the state park area. The father was interviewed, after returning 30 to 60 minutes later, and said the girls were “digging in their heels” when he said it was time to go. Girls were counseled to be obedient to their father’s directions even if it didn’t line up with what they wanted to do. Girls agreed to follow that counsel. No further action was taken.

Wednesday, July 31

At about 9:45 a.m., a blacktail deer failed to yield the right of way to a Curry County deputy, who was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 350, and was gravely injured upon impact. No damage to state property or injuries to humans were associated with the collision.

Friday, August 2

At about 11:22 p.m., a disturbance was reported at Miller Bar on the Chetco River. Investigation showed a woman threatened the life of another woman. Suspect was arrested, transported and lodged in Curry County Jail.

Saturday, August 3

At about 4:08 p.m., a subject attempted to purchase a firearm from Bi-Mart in Brookings. The transaction was denied by the FICS unit. Investigation ongoing.

Sunday, August 4

At about 8:53 p.m., a vehicle was broken into at Secret Beach parking area. The passenger window was broken out and purse and backpack stolen. Two purchases were made in Brookings. No current suspects; follow-up investigation pending.
