This is a reminder that there are phone scams going on and we want you all to be aware of these scams.  Don’t be a victim!!!

Recently there have been a few complaints regarding citizens getting phone calls from what appears to be a local number, saying that they are so and so from the Curry County Sheriff’s Office and that we are demanding money.  The callers keep you on the phone with threats of arrest.  They also go as far as threatening family members as well.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office would never call you and advise you of a warrant for your arrest and then tell you to purchase money orders and send them the information on the money order.  We would never threaten you or your family with these tactics.  It is a SCAM and if you do get these calls, hang up and call your local law enforcement agency.

These scam calls are mostly coming from outside the United States and they can spoof telephone numbers to make it look like they are calling from a local number.  It is almost impossible to track these numbers to find out exactly where they are calling from.  They get information from the internet on law enforcement agencies and those who work there and use that information to make you believe you’re talking to the police from a local agency.

Please do not fall for these scams and let those scum scam you out of your savings.
