A new storm system approaching from the Pacific Ocean is expected to arrive this weekend. The National Weather Service says this system will produce cold temperatures and rain along the coast and more snowfall in the mountains.
Look for sunshine today and rain developing overnight into the rest of the weekend for Brookings. Temperatures along the Curry Coast will range into the upper forties and low fifties day side to the mid thirties overnight.
The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Seas Watch in effect Saturday evening through Sunday evening for coastal waters from Florence to Cape Blanco out 10 nm and for coastal waters from Cape Blanco to Pt. St. George CA out 10 nm.
South winds will increase to 15 to 25 kt Saturday night into Sunday morning. Winds will begin to diminish Sunday afternoon.
Steep to very steep seas may develop Saturday night, building to 8 to 11 feet at that time, then increase to 10 to 14 feet Sunday morning. Seas will slowly subside Sunday evening.
Hazardous seas may affect all areas Saturday night into Sunday.
A Hazardous Seas Watch is issued when the risk of very steep and hazardous seas has significantly increased, but the specific timing and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to provide additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider altering their plans.
