The World Health Organization considers oral health to be a key indicator of overall health, wellbeing and quality of life.
A tooth infection not only causes pain, it can spread to other teeth and even lead to bone and gum weakening over time. Dr. Brice Chang and his team at Brookings Dental Arts want to help people without insurance suffering from tooth pain. They provide free dental work to people without insurance during their annual Volunteer Day.
This year the Volunteer Day will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Brookings Dental Arts, 315 Pacific Ave. in Brookings. Procedures will be limited to tooth extractions and, time permitting, fillings.
People without insurance will be treated on a first come, first served basis and be prioritized based on the severity of their situation, in particular, people in pain. Volunteer Day is open to residents of Brookings, Gold Beach and Crescent City.
“I want to thank the staff and Dr. Chang for getting me out of pain,” said Suzanne Martinek, who received free dental work during the 2016 Volunteer Day. “It was really nice of the staff and Dr. Chang to volunteer and help out the community. It's nice to see that there are people out there that like to care for others and help out.”
For years, Brookings Dental Arts provided pro bono dental work to people in need that were referred to the clinic. To be able to reach even more people, Dr. Brice Chang held the first Volunteer Day in 2015. To date, the clinic has provided more than $24,000 of free dental work through its annual Volunteer Day.
“We care about the residents of the communities we serve,” Chang said. “That’s why we offer an affordable membership plan for individuals and families without dental insurance, and serve the most needy members of our communities through the annual Volunteer Day.”
