Following the annual Raining Cats and Dog Rotary Fundraiser in September, money raised during the event is now being shared with local service groups.
Everyone was all smiles as checks as the Rotary of Brookings-Harbor Club issued the checks Oct. 22 at at Blue Water Cafe and Lounge. Club President Bonnie Jordan presented a $2,500 check to the South Coast Humane Society of Brookings, and a $2,500 check to the Wild Rivers Animal Rescue of Gold Beach.
The checks to the two animal shelters in Curry County were donated by the top prize winner, Rick Gray, during the Raining Cats and Dogs event held on Sept. 28.
During the event, up to 5,000 “adopted” rubber cats and dogs were dropped from a helicopter onto a target painted on the Brookings Harbor field. The rubber cat or dog dropped closest to the target won a grand prize of $5,000.
