Domoic acid high
Domoic acid levels in crabs tested Dec. 8 off the southernmost coast of Oregon are still too high to open the season; the next testing will begin Dec. 17, the Oregon Department of Agriculture said Thursday.
Zone L, from Gold Beach to the Oregon-California border will remain closed until the domoic acid levels return to safe levels. The zone above it, from Gold Beach to Cape Blanco, will remain closed as a buffer zone, as well.
Domoic acid levels in two tests were at 30 and 40 parts per million (ppm); the top limit for food consumption is 30 ppm. Tests of crab in the zone north of Brookings tested at 2 to 7.2 ppm.
