The Brookings-Harbor Chamber of Commerce is soliciting graphic designs from Curry County residents for a logo for the 80th Azalea Festival slated for May 23 to 27.

The theme is “A Blast from the Past,” and the deadline has been extended to March 22.

The winning entry will be selected by Azalea Festival Committee and entrants will be notified of the results by phone or email when a decision has been made.

The winning submission will receive design recognition and a complimentary meal pass for the festival park festivities May 25.

The design will be evaluated on the following criteria:

•Clarity of message related to 80th event

•Reproducibility (on website and documents and or other marketing items)

•Required design elements: 80th Azalea Festival May 23-27, 2019, “A Blast from the Past”

•Encouraged design elements: local scenery or industries; an “old-fashioned fair feel.”

Technical requirements include:

•Artwork can be produced by any means, but the final submission be as an electronic file.

•Hand-made artwork must be scanned as line art at 225 ppi/dpi and submitted as electronic file.

•Acceptable file formats and resolution requirements are: PSD, EPS, AI, JPG, TIFF

•225 ppi/dpi minimum resolution

•Approximately 2000 x 2000 pixels (8.5”)

•Please flatten your artwork for submission.

•No Word files or PowerPoint files. These are not printing resolution applications.

•If fonts are used in the image, and the image cannot be flattened, convert text to outlines or include them with the file. If assistance is needed for scanning, contact the chamber.

The winning graphic will be used in a wide range of sizes, from 1.5 to 10 inches or larger, making it a challenge to design a clear, readable image for smaller uses such as letterhead and larger ones such as posters. A good test is to print it on 8.5 x11-inch paper and put it 10 feet away to ensure everything is legible.

Committee members note that if using clip art, stock photography or illustrations, submissions must respect copyrights of other artists. If images, illustrations, photos or icons are copied from a book, website, CD/DVD or other source without permission it might infringe on copyrights of someone else’s work. Entrants are encouraged to instead make their own art based on an idea that inspired them.

The winning artwork becomes the property of the chamber for use and modification in promotional literature and materials

Entries can be emailed to, (with Logo Competition in the subject line) or sent via FaceBook Messenger to the Brookings Harbor Chamber of Commerce FaceBook page for submission.
