In a dramatic reversal of recent actions, Port of Brookings Harbor commissioners meeting late Tuesday reinstated Port Manager Gary Dehlinger, just five days after voting 4-1 to fire him.

The board voted unanimously to reinstate Dehlinger and place him on paid administrative leave.

Commissioner Roger Thompson voted yes “but with prejudice.”

Resolution 489 which passed Tuesday rescinds Resolution 488 which passed on Jan. 5. Resolution 489, by rescinding 488, reinstates Dehlinger, stops the staff from preparing his final pay and places him on paid administrative leave.

Commissioner Roy Davis asked if the resolution to reinstate could state commissioners were reinstating Dehlinger on the advice of their attorney. Commissioner Jan Barbas and President Angi Christian said it would be unwise to change wording which had already been reviewed by Port Counsel Jim Coffey.
