Gold Beach residents have the opportunity to take part in The National Wreaths Across America Ceremony on Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Gold Beach Library located at 94341 3rd St.
Guest Speakers are Gold Star Mother, Sally Wiley, WWII Veterans Dorothy Nickerson and Bud Dubay with Special Music by Dr. Jessica Carlson. Ceremonial Wreaths will be presented for each United States Military Branch, and a Ceremonial Wreath will be presented in honor of Gold Star Families.
Vietnam Veterans who have not received a 50th Commemorative Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin will be honored. Any veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to receive a lapel pin. There is no distinction between veterans who served in-country, in-theater, or who were stationed elsewhere during the Vietnam War period.
Immediately following the ceremony, Remembrance Wreath laying will take place at the Rogue River Cemetery (aka Gold Beach Cemetery) with a Gun Salute and Taps. Volunteers are encouraged to say the veteran’s name aloud and to take a moment to thank them for their service to our country. In total, 310 wreaths will be placed at Rogue River Cemetery to Remember the fallen, to Honor their service, and to Teach our children the value of freedom. National Wreaths Across America Day is a free event and open to all.
