SOWIB has survey set up online for businesses
Employers in Coos, Curry and Douglas counties are being asked to report current economic loss and layoff estimates online to the Southwestern Oregon Workforce Development Board, to assist SOWIB’s rapid assessment of regional effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
Government agencies will use the resulting regional overview to better understand and anticipate regional conditions and areas at greatest risk. All Coos, Curry, and Douglas county employers are asked to assist by visiting www.sowib.org/covid-19 and completing a short form.
“We know things are still changing,” says Kyle Stevens, SOWIB executive director. “But state and federal agencies want some sense of what’s already happening, in order to design relief to address the most pressing issues.”
Stevens explains that the regional assessment will support the implementation of programs to assist businesses and laid-off workers.
“Detailed information about how to apply for help will be posted on our website as soon as it is available” Stevens adds. “Right now, we’re just trying to describe the big picture.”
The SOWIB website (www.SOWIB.org) also currently provides employers and workers with links to frequently updated information about workforce support and health, including recent changes to accommodate the need for unemployment insurance benefits.
SOWIB is a non-profit organization that strategically invests public and private resources to build an adaptable workforce supporting and attracting family-sustaining employment in Coos, Curry and Douglas Counties. The SOWIB board is appointed by Commissioners from each county.
In addition to creating training and certification programs for regional employment in high-demand, high-paying jobs, the board oversees and coordinates local offices for state workforce development and employment assistance for optimal service aligned with regional needs and opportunities.
