The first annual Live Culture Coast, a sensory celebration of fermentation, creativity and exploration is winding its way down the southern Oregon Coast, with events happening this week in Gold Beach and Brookings.
Live Culture Coast isn’t a single event, but a menu of hands-on experiences focused on art, food, nature and adventure. Hosted by the makers, creators, and entrepreneurs of the Southern Oregon Coast, the experiences take place at shores, trails, farms, towns, restaurants, galleries, and businesses.
The celebration, which started on October 18 in Reedsport, follows a choose-your-own-itinerary format. “It offers a rich menu of experiences for every type of traveler,” Live Culture Coast Creative Director Amber Peoples said. Local events include learning how to ferment foods, brew beer, screen printing, sample bitters at an installation art talk, learn how to make sourdough bread, make kimchi, make bitters or ginger beer, make miso and more. The events are designed to both boost tourism, allow local artisans to share their passions, and educate and entertain local people.
“People here have so much passion and energy—and they want to share their knowledge and stories with others,” Peoples said. “Live Culture Coast is designed to pique curiosity and deliver the kinds of experiences that can transform us in some essential way. We want people to have a richer, deeper connection to this incredible place.”
“Live Culture Coast celebrates what makes the Southern Oregon Coast the next great travel destination on the West Coast—its bounty of food and farms, its growing arts and culture scene, and its incredible access to wild nature,” according to publicity about the event.
